Beauty Queen Rhapsody

I was just going down memory lane and felt like posting the lyrics to this song I wrote a long time ago for a character named Chantelle.  I realize there are so many flaws with this song but I wanted to share it.  I think I’m going to start sharing things like that on here now.  Lyrics, poems, stories, you know that kind of stuff.

CHANTELLE

I WAS A BEAUTY QUEEN

BY THE AGE OF 17

I WON MISS GRAND SUPREME

MY EYES HAD THAT GLEAM

I HAD A DREAM

TO BE MOST BEAUTIFUL

I FOUND A GOOD SURGEON

AND WITH SOME COLLAGEN

GOODBYE MISS DOUBLE CHIN

I’LL BE A NEW PERSON

I HAD A PLAN

TO BE MOST BEAUTIFUL

TO BE MISS BEAUTIFUL

IT’S GOT TO BE IRREFUTABLE

THEY SAID I HAD IT ALL BUT I KNOW: BEAUTY AIN’T NATURAL

IT’S HARD WORK.

IT TAKES TIME FOR BREASTS THAT REALLY PERK

AND CURLS THAT REALLY SHINE

I MEAN YOU’RE APPLYING AND DRYING AND DYEING AND VVYING AND TRYING TO LOOK THE WAY THEY WANT

I see myself as an athlete of beauty The rationalization goes like so: Plastic surgery is like the athletes’ physio

IN MY DEFENSE IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE

IF A KNEE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED

TO WIN A RACE THEN WHY NOT YOUR FACE?

IF YOUR SHOULDER CAN’T SINK THAT BASKET

IF YOUR NOSE ISN’T DOING ITS JOB

IF YOUR HAMSTRINGS HAVE BEEN BLASTED

IF YOUR LIPS DON’T LOOK LIKE THEY THROB

I WAS CRYING AND SIGHING AND BUYING AND PRYING AND JUSTIFYING MYSELF THE WHOLE DAMN TIME

IN A GAME OF BEAUTY PAGEANTRY

IT’S NOT ABOUT AESTHETICS

IN A GAME WITHOUT A STRATEGY

IT’S MORE ABOUT COSMETICS

NO ROOM FOR BAD GENETICS

THEY SAID I HAD IT ALL BUT I KNOW: BEAUTY AIN’T NATURAL

I want to make one thing perfectly clear. I have no regrets about any it. I look amazing! But I suppose the pageant judges thought differently.

THEY SAW A PRETENSE

WITH NO COMMON SENSE

NOW THIS TROUT POUT

HAS TAKEN ME OUT

OF THE COMPETITION

THAT’S WHY I’M AT THIS AUDITION

WHEN CLEOPATRA’S CRUSHIN’ BEETLES

THEN MADONNA’S INJECTIN’ NEEDLES

NOW I CAN SEE VARNISHED TRACES
OF PICASSO PAINTED FACES

THEY SAID I HAD IT ALL BUT I KNOW: BEAUTY AIN’T NATURAL
