I’ve made a commitment to writing every day as well as writing a new song once a week. The new song I wrote this first week of 2016 is called 12 Steps. It belongs in the new-ish musical I’m constantly writing – Virtual Unknown. At the moment the song is sung by two of the characters that inhabit that world – Amber and Chantelle. I had the idea for the melody and plunked it out on the piano. Then, invited my singer/songwriter friend Ana over and she helped me figure out what chords would work the best. Then on Thursday I participated in a Master Class that’s part of the Toronto School of Songwriting and played it for some really talented folks who gave me really great feedback.
I was thinking about singing the song at an open mic night but I’m not sure I’m ready for that quite yet. The reason I say that is I’m still not that strong on the piano and so my tempo is always off cause I am constantly hesitating.
Virtual Unknown is the latest re-imagining of Nobody’s Idol. I hope someday things work out for these musicals of mine.
