I’ve been looking for a composer again to help put music to my musical. It’s kind of stressful to be…so far, only a lyricist/playwright or whatever. I’ve got ideas and words but nothing to work with. I really would like to have at least 1 song for this staged reading in June. I like to think it’s do-able. I feel though that my claim that I am writing a musical is laughable because there is no original music. I feel very inspired by actual songs and feel they could work but I don’t want it to be like a Glee where there is no original music. Plus, that kind of musical is for show’s with sensational budgets and millions of viewers. Anyway, I found this guy on craigslist, who I’m meeting with on Tuesday to see if and how he can help. Also, Stephanie Sheri is going to help by – I guess improvising more music based on songs I send her. And from there I’ll find a melody and fit in all the lyrics I have in mind. Everyone is really busy, which is what it is. I’ll take what I can get and figure the rest out by myself.
I’m kind of surprised by 2 things lately. The first, that I’m actually talking about this play with others. I usually shy away and feel embarrassed and apologize profusely for even daring to dream. The second, is that I’ve actually been doing those vocal exercises. We’ll see what happens the next time I go to sing an actual song.
