I sang that Four Non Blonds song ‘What’s up” last night and it went really well. I sang it with such passion and really enjoyed the moment of singing it. I was surprised because I almost chickened out of singing this song. I was worried that if I sang it badly I would spend the rest of the week berating myself but then I just thought ‘whatever’ and went for it. Sure some of the notes might’ve been off but I fully committed to the moment and it paid off. It was nice coming off the stage to faces that are bright and light up and congratulations to a song well sang. As opposed to the other option where people avoid eye contact at all costs and carry on their mighty way. I waited to sing a second song which was “One Short Day”. I know I was off on a couple of notes but that song was pure fun and I got all the words.
Also I’ve been asked to do duets with people lately which I’ve said no too. Mainly because karaoke is my time to shine I’ll be damned if I’m going to share the spotlight- yet again. But there are some great duets that I wouldn’t mind putting my diva aside to collaborate on. Duets I am ok with singing are:
- Tell Him – Barbara Streisand + Celine (which is not possible at the place I go karaoking)
- Friendship – from Anything Goes
- Hakuna Matata – Lion King
- The Boy Is Mine – Brandy and Monica
- Don’t You Want Me – Human League
- What is this Feeling – Wicked
- For Good – Wicked (although I’d rather do this one by myself)
- You’re the One that I Want – Grease
- Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
- Suddenly Seymore – Little Shop of Horrors
- Light My Candle – Rent
- As Long As You’re Mine – Wicked
- You’re the Top – Anything Goes
- My New Philosophy – You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown
- Another Day – Rent
You’ll notice that ‘Take Me, Or Leave Me” is, in fact, not on here. I don’t know I’m just not feeling it. I don’t want to sing it until I can sing it, you know. Plus I would want to play Maureen (of course) and I’ve already done this duet before and played Joanne so it’s kind of my turn to play the other part. Is that a diva move? Well who cares it’s karaoke.
